Here is a "do-it-yourself" eSource Intelligence tip about Google Alerts. I am sure everyone knows about Google Alerts. If you don't, then go here for more info. Google Alerts are a very easy (and free) way to start your own online media monitoring program.
In order to increase your chances of getting the most inclusive results from your Google Alerts, setup a separate entry for each "Type" of alert on the same "Search Term" instead of one entry with 'Comprehensive' for the "Type". I have tested 'Comprehensive' vs setting a separate alert for each "Type" several times on different search terms and in most cases the 'Comprehensive' selection for "Type" misses some pertinent search term results.
To ensure you receive all the pertinent results Google Alerts have to offer, go the extra step of setting up a separate entry for each "Type". For example, to monitor chatter on the phrase "eSource Intelligence", I have a separate alert for each "Type"; news, blogs, video, and groups.
Search term = eSource Intelligence, Type = News
Search term = eSource Intelligence, Type = Blogs
Search term = eSource Intelligence, Type = Video
Search term = eSource Intelligence, Type = Groups
